Right on the back of their recent success with Big River, Shire Music Theatre returns with a bright and contemporary musical comedy that puts modern relationships square in the spotlight.

A musical cross between Sex in the City and FriendsI Love You Because  is fresh, funny, sexy… and very up-to-date!

This modern take on relationships is set in New York City.
Austin, a greeting card writer, has just discovered the woman he planned to spend his life with has other plans. His brother, Jeff, decides it’s time for both of them to get back into the dating scene. Ignoring the fact that neither of them are Jewish, Jeff arranges dates for them both through the famous on-line Jewish dating service ‘J-Date’. They arrange to meet Diana and Marcy (who are also pretending to be Jewish!) at the local bar.

Jeff and Diana hit it off straight away – after all, they’re only after a bit of fun. Things don’t go so well for free-spirited Marcy and straight-laced Austin. But after an unfortunate mishap, they meet again and eventually Marcy offers to help Austin get his old girlfriend back.

Full of mishaps, misunderstandings and mistakes I Love You Because is a fun, contemporary, romantic comedy that has played to delighted audiences the world over. The Off-Broadway musical hit includes songs like ‘We’re just friends’ and ‘But I don’t want to talk about her…’.

It stars Lauren Kenyon as Marcy, Chris Malliate as Austin, Bridget Keating as Diana, Phil McIntosh as Jeff plus Lauren Kate Butler and Joel Leffler. Directed by Cheryl Butler, musical direction by Andrew Howie.

The show opens at the Sutherland Memorial Arts Centre on August 20. Bookings: (02) 8230 0668.
