Rock Surfers want to sleep with Tom Stoppard in new play

Tamarama Rock Surfers are set to stage the world premiere of I want to sleep with Tom Stoppard, a new work by award-winning actor and playwright Toby Schmitz, directed by Rock Surfers artistic director Leland Kean.

I want to sleep with Tom Stoppard

It’s the story of Luke, who is going out with the brilliant actress Sarah. She’s sexy, a bit older and a lot more dangerous, and she’s crashed a dinner at his parents’ house. The parents, Tom and Jackie, are regular theatre subscribers who are great with a gourmet spread but  are fueled into making a volatile situation even more volatile when a debate about the relevance of theatre breaks out. Because this debate unleashes the lunatic in Sarah.

Director Leland Kean is excited to take on the work of frequent collaborator and Patrick White award-winning playwright Schmitz. “The play discusses where theatre sits in Australian society, what role it serves, if any, whilst being wrapped in a very domestic story that echoes the disintegration in Albee’s Virginia Woolf.

Performances start from 29 August at the Bondi Pavilion Theatre. For bookings and more information, visit www.rocksurfers.org
