Rainbow Families Cabaret celebrates all families made

Arts Centre Melbourne and Circus Oz in association with PRISM and Midsumma Festival are proud to bring the Rainbow Families Cabaret to Live at the Bowl.

On Saturday 1 May – for two shows only at 10am and 12:30pm – The Listies will host a laugh-out-loud show that celebrates the collective differences of the LGBTIQA+ community with a line-up of acts curated by Circus Oz.

Circus Oz is delighted to assemble the best of Melbourne’s physical and energetic entertainers to bring our family to yours. This year it is extra special to reconnect LGBTIQA+ families and allies under the much-loved Rainbow Families banner and the magnificent setting of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is the icing on the cake. The new cabaret format brings circus artists – and the magic they create – back to centre stage for the first time in over a year. I cannot think of a more enjoyable way to kick-start celebrations, community and connection, says Circus Oz Executive Director Penny Miles.

Rainbow Families Cabaret will showcase the joy of circus, singing and dancing from the best LGBTIQA+ and allied performers that Melbourne has to offer for families of all makes and models.

We look forward to welcoming every family into ours! It’s going to be a giant world of yay-time family rainbowtainment! Expect singing, dancing, burping, farting, unicorns, farting unicorns, burping farting unicorns, singing burping farting unicorns. The list is literally endless. We couldn’t be more delighted! say Matt and Rich from The Listies.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australian Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

We’re excited to be welcoming visitors back to our venues in line with the most recent Victorian Government guidelines on COVID-19. We have opened our outdoor café Protagonist, the Sunday Markets as well as the Australian Music Vault. These openings coincided with the Live at the Bowl season, which officially kicked off on 8 January 2021.

We will continue to offer audiences the chance to experience the wonder of the performing arts via our digital hub – Together With You. For more information including: our opening plans and related health and safety policies; bookings for free and ticketed events; and other digital content and experiences, please visit artscentremelbourne.com.au.
