Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) launched their 2013 Creative Development Series last week announcing the involvement of some of Queensland’s shining stars of the stage.
Celebrated actress Christen O’Leary (End of the Rainbow) will join audience favourite Hugh Parker and Matilda-Award-winners Eugene Gilfedder, Melanie Zanetti and Kathryn Marquet, and O’Leary’s End of the Rainbow co-star Anthony Standish for the series that is described as an incubator of new ideas, exploration and performance.
“Creative Development is how we cultivate and nurture the next generation of projects…” QTC Artistic Director Wesley Enoch said, calling for the theatre going public to support the program.
“…We invite everyone to come along and experience this program, it’s important we have great audiences.”
You expect a creative development to be a ‘show-and-tell’ of new performance work; it may take the form of a short performance, a conversation between key artists, a presentation of a set or costume design or a series of images or a combination of all these things. Following each session, feedback can be given anonymously via feedback forms or during a Q&A session in the courtyard afterward – either way, the message is clear for audience members; be a part of the process and enjoy your own personal contribution to the end creative product – a rare and exciting opportunity for local theatre-goers.
The Creative Development Series is on until April 20; see queenslandtheatre.com.au/what-is-on/the-greenhouse for more information and to book tickets (at five to ten dollars per session, this is a wonderfully cheap experience). Still to come in the series:
Maxine Mellor’s Trollop – play reading & development showing April 12
Matthew Ryan’s Bull – play reading & development showing April 19
Elaine Acworth’s Gloria – play reading April 20.
