The Production Company announce full cast and extended season for Jesus Christ Superstar

The full cast has been confirmed for The Production Company’s upcoming season of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Previously announced cast include Rob Mills (Grease, Legally Blonde) as Jesus, Zoy Frangos (South Pacific, Les Miserables) as Judas and Alinta Chidzey (Curtains, Show Boat) as Mary Magdalene.

The undisputed queen of Australian cabaret, Trevor Ashley (Les Miserables, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), will appear as King Herod, Also joining the cast, direct from his recent appearance in Cabaret, is Michael Cormick as Pontius Pilate.

The ensemble cast will feature Embla Bishop, Jared Bryan, Angelique Cassimatis, Emma Clark, Zoe Coppinger, Sage Douglas, Nelson Gardner, Glenn Hill, Alex Hyne, Luke Jarvis, Kurt Kansley, Andrew Kroenert, Josie Lane, Luigi Lucente, Scott Mcconnell, John Reed, Thern Reynolds, Pharic Scott, Suzanne Steele, Rachael Ward and Sam Ward.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s brilliant score includes Jesus Christ Superstar, Heaven On Their MindsWhat’s the Buzz?, and Mary Magdalene’s Everything’s Alright and I Don’t Know How to Love Him.

The musical is based on the last week of Jesus’s life, highlighting the political and personal struggles between Jesus and his disciple, Judas. Gale Edwards is directing this rock masterpiece, having already directed Jesus Christ Superstar on London’s West End and on Broadway. In 2000, Gale won an Emmy Award for the televised recording of her production.

The Production Company also announced that the season, which begins on July 29 at the Arts Centre Melbourne, will be extended by 8 performances taking it through to August 13. Tickets for the newly added shows will be available from 9am Monday 5 June from Artscentremelbourne.com.au

Matt is a past owner of AussieTheatre, working as digital director from 2011 to 2019. He is also a performer, most recently appeared in the Australian tour of Mamma Mia! and previously in the Australian/NZ tour of CATS and Enda Markey's acclaimed production of Blood Brothers. As well as performing Matt keeps himself busy in the digital side of the arts working with web design agency Emptyhead Digital
