Poor conditions in Music Theatre auditions
In a recent Equity Bulletin, the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) have spoken out about unfair conditions in Musical Theatre audition processes in Australia.
With over 22,000 members, the Alliance is the union which covers everyone in the media, entertainment, sports and arts industries.
“Performers should never be asked to do more than three auditions in the space of 28 days without being paid. Equity has recently been made aware of unpaid call-backs, as well as inadequate seating and excessive waiting at some musical theatre auditions”, the notice says.
Equity can pursue payment if auditionees have done more than three auditions and not been paid. The Alliance also states that they should be notified of “any other issues” so immediate action can be taken.
