Willy Wonka has thrown open the gates of his magical chocolate factory but unlike the book, everyone is invited.

The classic Roald Dahl book, turned movie, turned musical is now running in Sydney, and David Hooley was invited along to their media call to give you a sneak peak at all the chocolaty goodness.

Playing the title role of Wonka is broadway actor Paul Slade Smith, who played Grandpa George in the original broadway cast.  The remaining local cast is star studded, with the obvious mentions of Tony Sheldon as Grandpa Joe and Lucy Maunder as Mrs Bucket.  Octavia Barron Martin, Stephen Anderson, Madison Mckoy and Jayde Westaby play the parents of the other “children” (the only actual child on stage is Charlie), with Jake Fehily, Karina Russell, Monette Mckay and Harrison Reily rounding off the adult principal cast.  The role of Charlie is shared between four lucky young actors; Oliver Alkhair, Tommy Blair, Xion Jarvis and Ryan Yeates.
