Phantom in Cinemas for 25th Anniversary

2011 marks the 25th Anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera’s debut in London, and a special 25th Anniversary concert will be screened in Australian cinemas this month.  After several weeks of previews at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London (from September 27, 1986) an official opening on 9 October, 1986 gave birth to arguably the most well known musical of all time.  The show celebrated it’s 10,000th performance on 23 October last year in London and also holds the record for the longest running Broadway show (23 years in 2011).  A special 25th Anniversary concert took place at the Royal Albert Hall on October 1 and 2 2011, starring Ramin Karimloo as The Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine. Both Karimloo and Boggess starred in the London premiere of Love Never Dies – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to The Phantom of the Opera – as Phantom and Christine 10 years on.  Australia’s own Phantom, Anthony Walow (pictured), made a guest appearance at the end of the concert with Sarah Brightman. Warlow is recognised internationally as one of the world’s leading men in music theatre, and appearing at this concert is a huge coup for the Australian theatre icon.  In celebration of the 25th anniversary, Australian audiences will have the opportunity to experience The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall on the big screen. The concert will be showing at cinemas from 13 October, 2011.
