PADDINGTON gains a Drama Desk nomination for Australia

As the 2020 Drama Desk Award nominations were announced in New York, they included a nomination for the Australian theatre community for Best Puppetry Design in Paddington Gets In a Jam.

With this latest nomination for the infamous marmalade-loving bear, Australian production company Rockefeller Productions now has back-to-back Drama Desk nominations – Rockefeller Productions also received a nomination for The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show (which will be touring Australia next year).

For over 60 years, British-born writer Michael Bond has delighted children and families all over the world with his stories about Paddington, the bear from Darkest Peru, famous for his love of marmalade.

Paddington is popular with both children and adults alike. Charm and humour are the keys to the enduring love for the Paddington series. Paddington’s adventures have been adapted several times for television, and for the big screen.

Paddington Gets In a Jam debuted in New York December 2019, garnering five-star reviews and praise for its puppetry and charming storytelling, culminating in a New York Times Critic’s Pick.

For those under 8, the action is hilarious, and members of that demographic at the performance I attended were squealing, giggling and bouncing in their seats – Laurel Graeber, New York Times

Even more good news – Australian producer Jonathan Rockefeller has confirmed exclusively to AussieTheatre.com that everyone’s favourite bear will be touring Australia starting January 2022.

Now that’s some good news to smile about!
