Opera Superstar Nicole Car returns to Melbourne for exclusive Verdi Gala

Celebrated Australian soprano Nicole Car will perform alongside husband, distinguished French Canadia baritone Étienne Dupuis in her hometown of Melbourne in Opera Australia’s upcoming Verdi Gala concerts exclusive to Hamer Hall on 30 April and 3 May.

An exciting follow up to last year’s sold-out tribute to Puccini, where Car delighted audiences with her moving performance, the Verdi Gala concert shines the spotlight on another Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi, whose operas remain some of the most performed to this day.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Nicole Car is one of the most successful singers to emerge from Australia in recent decades and remains in high demand at the world’s major opera houses.

An operatic mega star in his own right, Étienne Dupuis has been praised for his “suave, empathetic baritone” and his “refined, charismatic” stage presence (The New York Times) and is an international favourite.

The cast also stars award-winning West Australian tenor Paul O’Neill who has forged a compelling career both at home and overseas, performing across Europe and Australasia to great acclaim.

Both concerts will be hosted by Greta Bradman, providing insight throughout on a varied repertoire of Verdi’s work, including some of his most loved masterpieces as well as some that are more rarely performed.

The musical splendour of Orchestra Victoria will be on full display,  joining the singers on stage and conducted by one of Australia’s leading maestros Alexander Briger.

The Verdi Gala brings his music to the fore, celebrating great works from a composer who has had immeasurable impact on the opera canon.
