Opera Australia today announced an exclusive evening of musical grandeur with its world-renowned Orchestra and Chorus performing Mozart’s Requiem at the City Recital Hall on 4 October 2025.
Celebrated as one of the greatest works of music composed for both orchestra and chorus, this one-nightonly monumental Mass for the Dead is filled with the dramatic intensity of the fiery ‘Dies Irae’ and the heartwrenching ‘Lacrimosa’, one of the most recognisable tunes Mozart ever wrote.
Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor is recognised as one of the most influential pieces of music ever written. Hailed as the composer’s final gift to the world, written as Mozart was himself facing his own demise.
The myth behind the masterpiece is as famous and mysterious as the work itself, with a story as melodramatic as any of Mozart’s operas, featuring a conniving a widow, an anonymous benefactor and multiple composers said to have contributed to its completion.
In addition to Mozart’s Requiem, the Opera Australia Orchestra will perform a series of orchestral works, including the famous overture from The Marriage of Figaro, Tchaikovsky’s energetic Russian Dance, along with a selection of pieces that will showcase the virtuosity of OA’s acclaimed Concertmaster, violinist Matthieu Arama and conductors Tahu Matheson and Paul Fitzsimons.
