Got a riddle for you, guvnor: The Melbourne Theatre Company love it, the Sydney Theatre Company are thrilled to present it, and the Adelaide Festival couldn’t wait to announce it as part of the 2013 lineup. What is it?

The National Theatre of Great Britain’s smash hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, of course!

One Man, Two Guvnors will be touring nationally next year, and MTC, STC and Adelaide Festival have all announced that they will be presenting the work during 2013.

This seven time Tony nominated play (2012) has a string of awards to its name including ‘Best Play’ at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2011, the Outer Critics Circle Award for ‘Outstanding New Broadway Play’ 2012.

In a major coup for Adelaide Festival’s incoming Artistic Director David Sefton, the Festival State will host the show first, from Thursday 28 February – Saturday 9 March 2013. The riotously funny play which is based on Goldoni’s 18th century Italian comedy The Servant of Two Masters will then transfer to Sydney for as part of Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton’s final season at the STC from 30 March – 11 May at Sydney Theatre (opening night 2 April). First time MTC Artistic Director Brett Sheehy has also programmed the work as part of his inaugural season from 17 May – 22 June at Arts Centre, Melbourne’s Playhouse.

“I saw the production in its opening week at the National Theatre last year, and immediately wanted Melbourne to see it. So I was thrilled when Arts Centre Melbourne approached us to partner with them, to make sure that could happen!”, said Melbourne Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Brett Sheehy.

David Sefton (Adelaide Festival) echo’s Sheehy’s thoughts on the show.

One Man, Two Guvnors is an example of something that is excellent, hilarious, and incredibly accessible for everybody. I’m thrilled to be bringing this production to Australia given its huge success in London and New York”, he said.

It is understood that an all-British cast will tour down under with the show, led by Owain Arthur as Francis Henshall, who is currently starring in the West End production.

Adelaide Tickets can be purchased via adelaidefestival.com.au or BASS 131 246

Melbourne Tickets can be purchased as part of a Melbourne Theatre Company subscription package from 23 August 2012 following the 2013 Season Launch and single tickets will be on sale from 28 November 2012.

Sydney Tickets will be available as part of a STC 2013 season ticket from early September.
