Off-Broadway comes to The Arts Centre Gold Coast

Forbidden Broadway

Tony Award winning, Forbidden Broadway by Gerard Alessandrini will play at The Gold Coast Arts Centre’s black box theatre, The Space, from Thursday 10 May to Saturday 12 May.

A satirical, cabaret revue spoofing some of Broadway’s greatest show tunes from musicals such as Chicago, Annie, Wicked, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia! and Phantom of the Opera – Forbidden Broadway has clocked up almost ten thousand performances since opening in 1982.

This rendition is a Fill This Space Youth Project, Funded by Regional Stages and supported by the Friends of the Arts Centre Gold Coast Youth Arts Academy and Featuring some of the Gold Coast’s best local talent including: Emily Monsma, Greta Brinsley, Jessica Purdy, Jy Etherington, Sarah Haigh, Tanele Graham, Jack Harbour, Alana Tierney, Steve Hirst and Cameron Twine, with special guest appearances by Lucy McIntosh and Matt Ward.

The New York post praised the production for being ‘gut-bustingly funny’ and Timeout Magazine said Forbidden Broadway ‘is a hoot!’

  • What a great show. I thought a send up of some of my favourite musicals would be hard to enjoy. But the enthusiasm and vigour of all of the cast was fantastic. The body language was infectious and invigorating. A professional production. Well done.
