Melbourne Theatre Company’s A Streetcar Named Desire, one of the most celebrated plays of the 20th century, premieres on the 13th July at Arts Centre Melbourne.
Stepping into one of the greatest stage roles and characters, Blanche DuBois, is award-winning Nikki Shiels (The Picture of Dorian Gray, Sunday).
Tennessee Williams’s classic masterpiece A Streetcar Named Desire is set against the backdrop of 1940s New Orleans where Southern belle Blanche DuBois (Nikki Shiels) grapples with her shattered dreams and inner demons as she seeks refuge in the cramped apartment of her sister Stella (The Newsreader’s Silver Logie nominee Michelle Lim Davidson), and her volatile brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski (The Dressmaker’s Mark Leonard Winter).
The 1951 film starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh is still regarded as one of the greatest classics of our time, and Melburnians will now be able to relive this timeless classic on our mainstage stage.
