The 2013 program launch is designed to provide new opportunities for Australia’s emerging actors, writers, filmmakers, directors and designers.

Unlike other traditional courses, NIDA Studios are generally held on weekends, making it easier for young people to undertake training through NIDA Open.

“We recognised that in today’s financial climate young artists and performers need to obtain full-time employment or study full-time in the short term in order to manage their time and finances,” Head of NIDA Open Mark Gaal said.

“By providing year-long courses with the greatest possible flexibility, we’re hoping that Australia’s most talented young artists can pursue their professional careers in a more practical way.”

The courses, which are year or half-year long, are conducted on weekends between February and December. They have been designed by industry experts, including the course leaders of NIDA’s elite degree courses. The Studios will be conducted at two age levels: 15 – 18 year old and 18 years and over. This will provide participants with a substantial and integrated industry pathway.

Admission into the highly competitive NIDA Studio programs is by audition or internview. In 2013, NIDA Studios will be established in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
