Newcastle company announces $10,000 playwright’s award

Newcastle’s premier live theatre producer, The Very Popular Theatre Company (TVPTC), invites theatre lovers everywhere to its 2022 Season launch.

Commenting on the launch, TVPTC Executive and Artistic Director, Daniel Stoddart, Said:

They were keen to shake off the challenges of the last two years and forge on into a very bright New Year.

Daniel Said:

During lockdown, we took the time to think about how we’d like the coming year to look and what we could do to help shore up our industry, which has taken a major battering during the pandemic.

We have programmed four outstanding productions under fabulous directors – including the long awaited Jersey Boys, which will finally have its debut next October in the magnificent Civic Theatre.

After being suspended this year, due to the lockdown. We’ve already sold out more than a third of the three-week season for Jersey Boys, so we’re off to a racing start.

Aside from the four shows, we are also launching three major new industry initiatives, which we know will be valuable contributions to developing the industry both locally and nationally.

Daniel added:

Without giving too much away ahead of the launch, I can divulge one of these programs is an annual playwrights award which will come with a $10,000 prize for the winner. Entries will be open for aspiring writers across the country and we can’t wait to see the interest this lucrative prize generates.
