Brisbane audiences are in for a treat this weekend, with the opening of a stellar new cross-genre choral/theatrical experience. Summer Moon, written by Brisbane writer Venero Armanno and set to music by one of Australia’s most sought after composers, Gordon Hamilton, showcases the exquisite a cappella sounds of The Australian Voices. The Brisbane based vocal ensemble have toured the world extensively since 1993, performing, recording and promoting the music of Australian composers to audiences across the globe at the highest international artistic standards.  This brand new, epic composition, forges new musical dimensions and explores new frontiers in choral excellence while utilising the production values of a theatrical work. The show is set to astonish audiences with its premiere tour in September/October.  Set in a compelling, contemporary context, Summer Moon is a classical story of longing, and love proving that when true hearts connect, love will find a way even in the most unlikely circumstances.  Summer MoonArtistic Director, Gordon Hamilton morphs superb vocal harmonies and a breathtaking range of stunning visual effects to create an evocative five-star interpretation of love. An effervescent score and uplifting theme navigates a galaxy of emotions and enriching experiences. It is performed to the highest artistic standards. “My goal has been to create a multidimensional experience with rich sounds, vibrant movement and a plethora of sensory stimuli. The poem created by Veny Armanno has given me a fabulous story with which to build the many layers of this production,” Hamilton said. The show includes stunning photography by David Collins, movement by Jan Baker-Finch and costume design by Felicity Boevink. The Australian Voices have received praise from many, many critics including Dr Jonothan Welch AM, who said recently: “The Australian Voices under the direction of Gordon Hamilton gave the most sublime performance tonight I have ever heard anywhere in the world!”
Summer Moon’s premiere tour commences on Saturday 10 September at the State Library, South Brisbane.  The Australian Voices will tour Summer Moon throughout Australia and overseas later in the year and in 2012. Other tour dates and venues can be found on the Australian Voices website (below).  To book tickets, visit: www.theaustralianvoices.com/moon  Photos by: David Wood
