New meaning for upcoming show

Hornsby Musical Society’s upcoming production of Leader Of The Pack has taken on new meaning with the show’s inspiration – songwriter Ellie Greenwich – passing away last week.

The musical will be presented at Hornsby RSL in Sydney from October 22 to October 30.

Leader Of The Pack celebrates the life and times of the Brooklyn-born Greenwich, whose doo-wop sounds skyrocketed to the top of the pop charts in the early to mid-1960s.

After a whirlwind courtship she married fellow aspiring songwriter Jeff Barry. They then began to churn out hits for the Ronettes, the Crystals, the Shangri-Las, Darlene Love, Connie Francis and Lesley Gore, among others.

Leader Of The Pack boasts a talented cast including Sarah Harris as Ellie, Jordan Vassallo as Jeff, Maya Solway as Darlene, CJ Herrman as Annie, Laura Sheldon as Connie, Amanda Porter as Pattie, Ashleigh Thomas as Shelley, Jess Grimmond as Mickey, Rosslyn Lindsay as Rosie and Craig Hutchinson as Gus.

Plus a terrific backup ensemble of 25 all-singing, all-dancing, all-rockin’ rebels without a pause!

Established in 1958, Hornsby Musical Society is one of Sydney’s most popular community theatre and musical comedy companies. Priding itself on cultivating up-and-coming talent, recent HMS hit shows include Little Shop Of Horrors, Annie, Shout, Cabaret and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Bookings: (02) 9477 7777.
