Nevin back in charge

Robyn Nevin is back in a position of power at an Australian theatre company after the Melbourne Theatre Company this morning confirmed that she would help create its 2012 season.

Nevin, the former Artistic Director of the Sydney Theatre Company, will be joined by Pamela Rabe and Aidan Fennessy to create the season.

“This exciting collaboration of such a multitalented and respected group of artists, who are well known and loved by our Subscribers, bring decades of industry experience in directing, acting, writing and programming to the Company,” said Melbourne Theatre Company Board Chairman, Derek Young.

“They are an outstanding group of artists each with their own unique skills and attributes and we are sure that they will continue to bring our audience
the very best classic and contemporary Australian and International theatre on offer. Over the next six months the group will meet regularly to program
our 2012 Season which will be officially launched in September.”

MTC Artistic Director, Simon Phillips, was thrilled with the news.

“When I think of the pleasure that Robyn, Pamela, and Aidan have given MTC audiences over the years, I’m completely confident that between them they can rustle up an MTC-type season that will delight our audiences,” he said.

“With the board’s decision to wait a year for the ‘right person for the job’, the task of conceiving an interim season needed to be filled by people with an intimate knowledge of the MTC style and the tastes and predilections of our Subscribers.”

Nevin said she was thrilled to be part of the season, but was still a little overwhelmed.

“I am delighted and somewhat surprised to find myself programming MTC’s 2012 Season with my good colleagues Pamela Rabe and Aidan Fennessy,” she said.

“After many years as Associate Director with both STC and MTC, then Artistic Director of QTC followed by 9 years leading STC, I thought I
had closeted my programming shoes forever.”
