Natalie Gamsu in Carmen, Live or Dead to preview at The Butterfly Club in April

If you have the chance to see Natalie Gamsu in cabaret, grab it. This women is a unique, spell binding, crazy, tower of strength, and she is bringing a brand new original work to Melbourne.

Carmen, Live or Dead is the fascinating and extraordinary story of Carmen Frida Leon Davidovich, The Love Child of Frida Kahlo and Leon Trotsky, Carmen is complex. She is irreverent. She is salacious. She is bold. She is intersex. And it is the last day of her life.

At the end of her life, Carmen takes us on a reflective journey of discovery – an orphan, a refugee, a hermaphrodite, a human.

Carmen, Live or Dead celebrates difference, embracing the feminine and the masculine with joy and life. A story brimming with unyielding authenticity, humour and grace, Carmen, Live or Dead is a unique and gripping theatrical experience that is moving, entertaining and thoroughly liberating.

Conceived by Craig Harwood and Natalie Gamsu and with original music by ARIA Nominated and Helpmann Award Winning Actor and Musician iOTA and Multi Award winning Australian Composer and Musical Director Max Lambert.

The production is directed by Shaun Rennie (Rent, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, I Am My Own Wife), musically directed by Andrew Kroenert (27 Club) and Natalie will be joined on stage by Stefanie Jones (Sound of Music, South Pacific, Once).

The production is produced by Helpmann Award-winning actress Elise McCann (currently playing Miss Honey in Matilda the Musical) and presented by Oriel Entertainment Group who also produced the critically acclaimed production of I Am My Own Wife at this years Midsumma Festival.
