Music Theatre is thriving in Melbourne!

Les Miserables opened last night with a large fanfare (and an even larger opening night party at the Forum on Flinders Street) marking a very special moment in the world of major musicals in Melbourne – four blockbuster productions are currently playing at the four major theatres in town.

The recently named East End Theatre District (the collective brand for the city’s heritage theatres) is thriving with WICKED at The Regent, Rocky Horror at The Comedy, The King and I at The Princess and Les Miserables now at Her Majesty’s Theatre on offer this winter.

To recognise and celebrate this exciting time in Melbourne’s Music Theatre scene, a special commemorative photograph will be staged tomorrow on the steps of Parliament House on Spring Street. Craig McLachlan and his motley crew of misfits, Lisa McCune and everyone from the Palace of Siam, Lucy Durack and whole of Oz as well as Simon Gleeson and the miserables will assemble in full costume along with theatre workers from each production and Minister for the Arts, Heidi Victoria MP at 12:30pm before the matinees commence around the city.

If you are in the area, stop by and take a photo and tweet it to AussieTheatre or use the hashtag #MelbMusicals
