It’s the latest in a string of big Aussie musicals to open in the last few years, and Sydney Theatre Co / Global Creatures’ Muriel’s Wedding is about to be immortalised (as it should be!) in the form of an original cast recording.
Featuring songs by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus & Stig Anderson (originally written for ABBA) and original musical and lyrics by Kate Miller-Heidke & Keir Nuttall, the show is currently playing its premiere season at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, Walsh Bay starring Maggie McKenna as Muriel.
In an Instagram post today, musical supervisor Guy Simpson has revealed that the cast and music team are close to completing the recording, making it the third Aussie musical to record an album in recent years (Dream Lover and Miracle City have also completed cast recordings).
Muriel’s Wedding will play until January 27 at Sydney Theatre Company.
