Michael Cassel Group productions earn seven Tony nominations

Overnight, two Broadway productions produced by international live entertainment producer Michael Cassel Group were recognised at the 76th Tony Awards® nominations ceremony.

INTO THE WOODS, which Michael Cassel Group is a co-producer of, and ALMOST FAMOUS, the company’s first Broadway production as co-lead producer, earned a total of six nominations.

The nominations add to the Best Musical nomination for MJ: THE MUSICAL in 2022, the smash-hit Broadway musical, co-produced by Michael Cassel Group.

INTO THE WOODS earned nominations for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actor (Brian d’Arcy James), Best Actress (Sara Bareilles), Best Supporting Actress (Julia Lester), Best Sound (Scott Lehrer & Alex Neumann) and Best Direction (Lear DeBessonet).

Cassel:

It has been a singular pleasure to partner with Jujamcyn Theatres, Jordan Roth and Nicole Kastrinos to bring Stephen Sondheim’s iconic INTO THE WOODS back to Broadway. The show was beloved by audiences in New York, and is now being enjoyed on tour around the United States, and these nominations are a wonderful endorsement of the show from the Broadway community.

ALMOST FAMOUS, an electrifying live rendering of Cameron Crowe’s iconic 2000 film of the same name, was nominated for Best Original Score – honouring the incredible soundtrack that underscored the story of Crowe’s life. The musical features 21 original songs written by Crowe and legendary Tony, Grammy, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize Award® winning songsmith Tom Kitt, and an Original Broadway Cast Recording was released by Sony Masterworks last month celebrating the show’s legacy.

Cassel:

Anyone who had the opportunity to sit in the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre to see ALMOST FAMOUS and be transported back to the 70s when rock was king will know just how extraordinary Tom and Cameron’s music was. I couldn’t be more thrilled that they have been recognised in this way.

The 76th Tony Awards® winners will be revealed at a gala ceremony on 11 June 2023 at the United Palace in New York City.
