Melbourne Shakespeare Company to live stream cancelled performance of AS YOU LIKE IT

Having been forced to cancel their production of As You Like It, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Melbourne Shakespeare Company has announced that they will be live streaming the show at 7pm AEST on Sunday 22nd March, completely free of charge.

Earlier this week Melbourne Shakespeare Company announced that for the health and safety of both their audiences and company members, it would be closing their production of As You Like It, which was due to run until the 22nd March.

“We were devastated when we had to cancel the production early” explained artistic director Jennifer Sarah Dean “It is more than just the financial loss for the company. There is so much hard work, love and passion that goes into every one of our shows it is heartbreaking for everyone involved that we don’t get to share the work we have created.”

In order to allow the many audience members who were unable to attend the show due to this cancellation, to still view the work, Melbourne Shakespeare Company will be doing a one off streaming of the production on facebook at the same time as their closing night production would have taken place. The performance will run for 90 minutes and can be found at www.facebook.com/melbourneshakespeare

The choice to run a stream instead of uploading a video is an important one. When you attend the theatre, unlike with film,  you experience a shared moment in real time. We are allowing anyone who wishes to join us at the same time, in the same digital space to share a recording of this production. – Dean added

The production will be aired free of charge however the company are asking for donations, if people can afford to, which will go towards the remounting of the show next year.
