Melbourne hosts 2018 Theatre Footy Day

The 8th annual Theatre Footy Day is set to take place today (28 May) in Melbourne, raising money for Beyond Blue.

2018 Theatre Footy Day

From 11:30am at Peanut Farm Reserve in St Kilda, members of the Australian arts community will come together to play an ‘exhibition’ game of AFL, all in the name of mental health awareness.

“Last year we raised over $1700 and this year we want to double that as this year”, said spokesperson Sam Marks.

“We are doing a raffle with prizes including a $600 GIANT cycles voucher, 4 tickets to Pink, 2 tickets to Katy Perry and heaps more!”

A 2016 report into health and wellbeing issues for those working in the Australian entertainment industry showed the levels of depression symptoms are five times higher in the Australian arts industry than general population scores. In addition to this, 44% of industry workers have moderate to severe anxiety, which is 10 times higher than the general population.

If you are in the Melbourne area, be sure to head down to St Kilda today to support Beyond Blue (and the fabulous men and women of the theatre who who are swapping their costumes, instruments, headsets and dance shoes for footy boots)!
