Matthew Robinson’s new voices are set to shine this Saturday

Australian Composer and Churchill Fellowship winner Matthew Robinson will be hosting a very special concert tomorrow night as part of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival at Globe Cafe in Prahran.

For two shows only (at 4pm at 7pm) 16 performers, who represent a combination of graduates and current students from WAAPA, VCA, Showfit, APO, Patrick Studios Australia, Brent Street Studios as well as some undiscovered new talents, will bring Robinson’s latest compositions to life in New Voices.

The 16 New Voices were chosen by YouTube and mp3 audition submissions and all underwent Robinson’s Singing Actor workshop last weekend. From the workshop, they were then personally assigned a song from Robinson’s catalogue of music and are performing that song tomorrow in Matthew Robinson presents New Voices.

“From over 40 submissions, these hand chosen New Voices represent a bright future for Australian musical theatre” Robinson told AussieTheatre.

Robinson’s musical Atlantis recently enjoyed two workshop readings in New York and the current WAAPA first year students just workshopped draft 6 of the show.

Only a handful of tickets are still available to see these new performers sing one of Australia’s most exciting new composers’ work.

“In addition to the Singing Actor workshop last weekend, we’ve been working one on one this week to showcase each person’s particular talents with a song from my catalogue”, said Robinson.

“They’re all doing a sensational job in bringing brand new textures to my music. There are a collection of Aussie premieres we’ll be serving up from the latest American draft of HAPPY PEOPLE and I’ll also be personally showcasing brand new music from the WAAPA workshop of ATLANTIS, so there’s a lot to see and hear!”

The full cast list of this exciting concert includes:

Eli William Cooper, Andrew Doyle, Casey Edwards, Josh Ellwood, Nick Hedger,Laura Jackson, Robert Jeffrey, Alexandra Keddie,Catherine Langley, Eloise Martyn, Ashleigh O’Brien, Lucy Ross, Bethany Simons, Sonyta Trahar, Alana Tranter, Samuel Ward
