As part of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival’s professional development strand, acclaimed director and performer Avigail Herman will be taking a masterclass in ‘Storytelling Through Song”. The former Head of Music Theatre at NIDA will take participants in the masterclass through a method of approaching songs with a sense of respect, wonderment and joy.  10 invited participants will have the chance to work with Herman, a vocal teacher, performer and passionate advocate for the performing arts and demystify the texts of vocal repertoire.  The doors are open to the public so anyone can view the masterclass in action. Entry is by a gold coin donation to the Melbourne Cabaret Festival’s official charity,  South Melbourne Community Chest, and will be on a first come, first seated basis.  The masterclass will run from 2pm -5pm on SATURDAY 23 July, 2011 in the ‘Liber Room’ (behind the Emerald Hill Library, opposite the South Melbourne Town Hall). Avigail recently directed Milk and Honey as part of the Magnormos Jerry Herman Triptych at the Melbourne Recital Centre. She is also performing her cabaret Hey World, Here I Am – The Streisand Story in the Festival, where she celebrates Barbra Streisand through her music.
