Chelsea Gibb and Juan Jackson just last month played the two lead roles in The King and I for The Production Company in Melbourne.

These two superb musical theatre performers will present their own cabaret shows at The Polo Lounge, The Supper Club in Taylor Square, Oxford Street Sydney on August 18 and 19 respectively.

Chelsea Gibb is best known to Australian audiences for her lead role as Roxie Hart opposite Caroline O’Connor’s Velma Kelly in David Atkins’ production of Chicago. Chelsea was chosen for this role by the American producers in her first ever audition after graduating from WAAPA in 1997 and she played the role for four years in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and South East Asia. She went on to play other leading roles –  Ruby Red in Get Happy, and Reno Sweeny in Anything Goes

She has spent the last couple of years enjoying her latest production, motherhood – nurturing her two small children – but she is delighted to return to the Sydney stage for the first time in three years with her own one woman Cabaret show Lucy And Jessice accompanied by Ashley Carruthers at The Supper Club from 8.30pm on Wed, August 18.

Lucy and Jessie is Chelsea’s own story from singing jazz in Ballarat as a teenager to her rise to fame in a kaleidoscope of roles including her iconic portrayal of Roxie Hart in Chicago. It is a story of stumbling, finding her feet, falling in love and playing her most inspiring role yet – as a mother.  It is an intimate unmasking of the performer that is Chelsea Gibb, featuring some of the most loved songs from musical theatre. Lloyd Harvey and Ash Bee will warm up the audience from 8pm with a preview of the new Australian musical Freddie and Eden.

Juan Jackson is best known to Australian audiences for his lead role as John in the Cameron Mackintosh production of Miss Saigon for which he received a Helpmann Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.  American born Juan fell in love with Australia during a world tour of Porgy and Bess, and has since performed here in Show Boat, The Convict’s Opera for Sydney Theatre Company (which also toured to the UK), Man of La Mancha for Gordon Frost, Sweet Bird of Youth for MTC, and most recently, the lead role of The King in The King and I for The Production Company. Juan’s next big stage role is as Dr Frank-n-Furter in the ever popular musical The Rocky Horror Show.

Jackson is performing with Jennifer Marten-Smith in Defustation, his debut cabaret show at the Supper Club on Thursday, August 19.
