Loving Repeating Photo Feature

The Australian professional premiere of Stephen Flahrety’s musical Loving Repeating is currently playing at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne, starring some of Australia’s brightest music theatre talent.

Directed by Jason Langly, with musical direction by Ben Kiley and choreography by Michael Ralph, this production by the newly established Vic Theatre Company (VTC) is certainly turning heads and making its mark on the arts industry.

Even composer Stephen Flaherty is excited about the show!

The new musical about American expatriate writer Gertrude Stein and her passion for life, language and the thrill of romantic love stars Deidre Rubenstein, Caitlin Berry and Jennifer Peers as Stein in various stages of her life. The musical follows Stein from her student days in the late 19th century to the height of her artistic era in Paris and beyond.

As one of the most influential queer artists of the past century, Stein and her expatriate milieu changed the way we see the world. One half of the twentieth century’s most famous lesbian couple, Stein is thought to have coined the word ‘gay’ for meaning homosexual.
