Advance Screenings of Love Never Dies are being held across the world this week in the lead up to the DVD, cinema and Blu-Ray release of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest blockbuster musical.
Members of the cast and crew of the Australian production of Love Never Dies, will view the filmed version of their production today in Sydney. In London yesterday, composer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber personally held a screening of the film and will do the same in New York next week.
Following the London screening yesterday, a preliminary review of the DVD was posted by Michael Coveney in his blog whatsonstage.com.
Coveney, the Chief critic of Whatsonstage.com, entitled his post ‘Love Conquers All’, and showers the film with praise hailing it a “brilliantly made film of the current Sydney production by Priscilla Queen of the Desert director Simon Phillips.”
“I for one was fully prepared to have my expectations undermined. He goes on to praise the performances (and O’Byrne’s pearly whites), the spectacle and declares the work the best film of a stage musical he has ever seen.
A spokesperson told AussieTheatre.com this morning that Lloyd Webber will be undertaking extensive publicity in NY to publicise soon-to-be-released DVD. While nothing has been confirmed, it does make one speculate: could this lead to a Broadway production sometime soon?
The DVD is set for international release in February 2012.
