Legally Blonde set for OZ?

There are strong rumours tonight that an Australian production of the Broadway musical Legally Blonde may be mounted before the end of the year.

The musical has just opened in London and had a reasonably strong support base on Broadway, though it didn’t do as well as producers would have hoped.

A recent survey of AussieTheatre.com readers revealed that they would like to see Legally Blonde produced in Australia ahead of a number of other blockbuster Broadway shows.

The musical is based on the movie of the same name, which was a worldwide smash. It follows Elle Woods, a ditzy blonde who, in the name of love, earns a place in a top university to study law.

The show’s most popular songs include ‘Serious’, ‘Positive’, ‘So Much Better’ and ‘Omigod You Guys’.

If an Australian production is mounted, it is possible reality television will be used to cast its star. In America, an MTV series was created to find a replacement for original leading lady, Laura Bell Bundy.
