KINKY BOOTS Australian premiere cast announced

Kinky Boots has been a real success of a new musical on Broadway and the West End, and now the cast has been announced for its premiere season in Australia, which opens in Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre from 12 October 2016.

Leading the cast is Toby Francis (Dogfight), a writer, producer, and performer from Sydney, in the role of Charlie – a young man trying to run the family show business – and Callum Francis (Kinky Boots in London), a West End performer as Lola, the drag queen that inspires Charlie to take his business in a new direction.

Composer and lyricist, Cyndi Lauper, said: “Just wait until you see Callum and Toby do their thing, they are both so talented! I’m thrilled to have them join our big, fabulous Kinky Boots family.”

The full cast are: Sophie Wright (Lauren), Damien Bermingham (Don), Teagan Wouters (Nicola) and Nathan Carter (George), along with Blake Appelqvist, Glenn Butcher, Hilary Cole, Jessica Condon, Denise Devlin, Euan Doidge, Daniel Downing, Bronte Florian, Linden Furnell, Ryan Gonzalez, Samm Hagen, Anthony Harkin, Joe Kosky, Jenni Little, Liam Peel, Emma Powell, Matthew Predny, Eric Rasmussen, Mark Stefanoff and Mitchell Woodcock.

Kinky Boots, based on the charming 2005 film of the same name, has music and lyrics by pop star Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein (Newsies, Torch Song Trilogy), four-time Tony Award winner. The show is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell – Australian audiences may remember seeing his work on the Australian tour of Legally Blonde.

“Since Kinky Boots began on Broadway we’ve opened productions in London, Toronto, Seoul and on tour across the US and this is without doubt one of the strongest casts we’ve ever put together,” Jerry Mitchell said.

“Aussie audiences will be blown away — as we were in the audition room!”

New tickets for Kinky Boots will be released on Monday 2 May 2016, with the musical extended in Melbourne until 27 November 2016. Tickets are available from www.kinkybootsthemusical.com.au.
