Composer Gavin Lockley has teamed up with Ann Blainey (award winning writer of I am Melba) to create the musical world of one of our nations true icons.

“I am blessed as a composer to have the opportunity to write for this era” Lockley said.

“From Big Band Jazz  through to lush, richly orchestrated ballads, Smithy (as we affectionately call it) caters musically and thematically for audience members of all ages.”

The performance is headlined by Musical Theatre super star Simon Gleeson, who is gearing up for his plumb role of Jean Valjean in The Australian production of Les Miserables, with students from the Australian Institute of Music in the ensemble roles. Lockley could not speak highly enough of the talented, professional approach of students, who have clearly been well versed in the craft by Head of Music Theatre Jennifer Murphy.

Director Tyran Parke said “I am always excited about the challenge of new musical theatre. When Gavin invited me to stage the showing I jumped at the opportunity.”

If you are interested in seeing Australia’s next big musical before it lifts off, King of the Air, will be showing for three performances only: 30 November at 2pm and 7:30pm and 1 December at 2pm.
