Kate takes her coffee to Slide, Sydney

Coffee With Kate

Sydney, prepare to be caffeinated next week as AussieTheatre’s regular columnist Kate Walder brings her show Coffee With Kate to Slide for one night only.

Based on her acclaimed regular columns on AussieTheatre.com, featuring her self deprecating wit and dry sense of humour, Coffee With Kate enjoyed a successful run during the Sydney Fringe 2010 and is back with a new format on Wednesday 2 May for one show only.

“I guess the original cabaret was a bit of a try-out to see if the concept worked”, said Kate

“I always intended to continue developing the show and perform it again, but after the Fringe season I felt it was important to get some distance and come back to it with fresh eyes. Then I went overseas and completely forgot about it.”

Fresh out of drama school, Kate Walder was ready to launch herself into the professional world and make a swift ascension to global theatrical domination. But, something is troubling this performer, something that causes her to flee to London, Edinburgh and Rome in search of greater understanding, universal truths and a half-decent flat white!

Directed by Tyran Parke and musically directed by Mark Chamberlain, the show is a heart-warming insight into the life of a young artist, with contemporary music, original material and songs from the Musical Theatre repertoire and this time around, Kate believes the show is more interesting, complex and entertaining.

“A couple of months ago when I was editing the DVD of my Fringe show, I had this flash about how the whole structure could be altered. It was really exciting to reinvent the piece with a more informed approach to writing and with greater courage as a performer”, she enthused.

“I also thought ‘well, I could spend the next few weeks selling wine and sitting on the couch complaining about men, OR I could spend the next few weeks selling wine, sitting on the couch complaining about men AND putting on a show!”… The later was more appealing!”, she quipped.
