Judi Farr to star as Australia’s Miss Marple in 2013 tour

Judi Farr will be donning her most sensible heels this year as the leading role in Agatha Christie’s A Murder Is Announced tour from September.

Perfect fit: Judi Farr as Miss Marple.

Farr, whose career includes an astonishing body-of-work on stage, TV and in film over 30 years has been confirmed as Australia’s Miss Marple – the ‘sensibly heeled sleuth’ -by producers Michael Coppel, Louise Withers and Linda Bewick in association with Mousetrap Productions Ltd, London.

There had been wide speculation on the casting of this role, but producer of The Mousetrap London Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen is thrilled that Farr will be stepping into Marple’s shoes, and he’s sure they will be a perfect fit.

“The choice of Judi Farr to play the iconic role of Miss Marple for this Australian production of A Murder Is Announced is totally ideal.  She embodies all of the qualities of Christie’s best-loved sleuth, from the twinkle in her eyes to her dry wit and wry smile. I am very much looking forward to seeing her, and the other actors and actresses, on stage in September.”

This new All-Australian production comes by overwhelming demand following the success of the 60th Diamond Anniversary Tour of The Mousetrap, which played to over 150,000 people over its seven month 2012-2013 Australasian Tour.

Touring Australia for the first time, tickets for A Murder Is Announced will go on sale for the Sydney Premiere Season on Friday, May 31.

In advance of commencing rehearsal for the tour, Farr said she is looking forward to tackling this coveted role.

“Agatha Christie’s iconic sleuth has, over many years, been portrayed by a host of luminaries and for me to portray Miss Marple is indeed a challenge but will be a delight”

Having appeared for the Sydney Theatre Company in  August: Osage County, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Pig Iron People, Navigating, After The Ball, Tartuffe, The Visit, Angels in America, Away and The Women of Troy (for which she received the Sydney Theatre Critics award for best actress), Farr is no stranger to the Sydney Theatre in Walsh Bay, where the production will open on September 27 before transferring to Melbourne at The Comedy Theatre for an October 30 opening. The show will also be touring to Brisbane from December 27.
