Adapting a musical for the big screen is a tall order. Especially one as beloved and vibrant as Lin Manuel Miranda’s smash hit Broadway show In The Heights. But Jon M Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) is just the man for the job. In this clip from Australia’s own Popcorn Podcast, the director – who also helms the upcoming Wicked adaptation – says he “grew up going to shows every weekend” and shares why it’s so important to champion diverse stories in the arts.

In The Heights is in Australian cinemas from June 24.
