Jazz meet the Symphony. Australian Pops Orchestra x James Morrison Quartet

The electrifying spontaneity of Morrison’s brilliant jazz improvisations with the grandeur and richness of Foreman’s Australian Pops Orchestra combine for one night only in James Morrison and John Foreman: Jazz Meets the Symphony on Tuesday 25 March at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.

Featuring some of the most beloved jazz tunes of all time, the concert will feature James Morrison and his quartet – which includes his two equally talented sons – as well as John  Foreman’s 60-piece Australian Pops Orchestra, award-winning tenor Mark Vincent and one of Australia’s favourite jazz vocalists, Emma Pask.

John Foreman:

It’s Nessun Dorma to New Orleans! James Morrison is a genius… His improvisations are truly incredible and his ability to switch between instruments is unbelievable. I’ll never forget the day he played trumpet with one hand and piano with the other! He is absolutely one-of-a-kind and I can’t wait to hear him performing with the 60-piece Australian Pops Orchestra again.

Emma Pask is absolutely sensational – she and James have such a great rapport – and I’m thrilled that Mark Vincent is performing with the orchestra again, he’s always brilliant.

James Morrison is a global jazz icon who has performed with many of the legends of jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck and B.B. King, to name just a few.

He has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and rock legends INXS. He plays trumpet, trombone, piano, saxophone and double bass.

John Foreman is a celebrated musician, composer and conductor, who has written music performed by artists ranging from José Carreras to Tina Arena and has played piano for James Galway, Reba McEntire and Tony Bennett.

Mark Vincent is Australia’s classical cross over tenor with a singing sensation’s voice way beyond his years. He was first discovered on Australia’s Got Talent at the tender age of 15, which he won, and he has since travelled the world wowing audiences with his rich and soulful voice.

Award-winning vocalist Emma Pask has firmly established herself as one of Australia’s favourite voices in Jazz. First spotted by Jazz great James Morrison when she was just 16 years old, her effortless stage presence combined with her powerful vocal ability, leaves audiences spellbound whenever she takes to the stage.

For over 40 years, the Australian Pops Orchestra has presented a unique blend of popular classical and contemporary music to Australian audiences. They have performed alongside many of the world’s favourite singers including Luciano Pavarotti, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Peter Allen, Andrea Bocelli, Dame Joan Sutherland, Sir Cliff Richard, Ray Charles and many more.
