Internationally-acclaimed soprano Alexandra Flood returns in homecoming tour

Alexandra Flood, one of Australia’s most promising opera singers, returns for a national homecoming tour throughout September and October.

From Venice to Vienna, Krakow to St Petersburg, the lyric coloratura soprano has established herself as one of the most in-demand young artists working across Europe. Following her recent debut in Paris Opera’s production of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Alexandra’s major debut will be at Madrid’s Teatro Real in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.

Alexandra Notes:

Performing in Paris was an absolute dream come true, and to see my name and work mentioned in Le Monde – a paper we read during Year 10 French class – was surreal. It was also a real treat to perform in English, as it gave me a little extra confidence, which certainly helped when making such a significant debut!

Raised in Phillip Island, the 31-year-old launched her global career in 2014 with a pledge to return home annually to both perform in Australia and share her experiences with fellow emerging artists. The former Melba Opera Trust scholar regularly mentors young opera singers to prepare them to traverse the complexities of an international opera career.

After nearly two years away, Alexandra joyously returns to Australia with performances in Brisbane and Melbourne and at Opera Queensland, QPAC, Melbourne Recital Centre, and Lucas Parklands

Reflecting on her return to Australia, Alexandra Highlights:

Last year’s cancellations, including a national recital tour with Selby & Friends, were devastating, and so I feel so happy to be able to return to Australia this year and appear with companies and fellow musicians whom I know and love. It really feels like a homecoming. There’s so much exciting, interesting repertoire to perform. It’s all incredibly beautiful, with some especially niche and curious pieces to share.

Alexandra will also join rising star bass-baritone Jeremy Kleeman and pianist Amir Farid in recital with Duets in Song for Melbourne Digital Concert Hall on Tuesday 14 September. The 60-minute concert celebrates the Romantic era with music by Brahms, Schubert and Mendelssohn. For details and bookings, visit Melbourne Digital Concert Hall.
