Inspiring night of song

A husband and wife set out to write a show. While searching iTunes last August for some inspiration, they find an album called This Ordinary Thursday – The Songs of Georgia Stitt. The End.

The end of their searching, and the beginning of their inspiration, that is.

Partners in performance and in life, Jordan Ybarzabal and Madeline Cain say the events following the discovery of Georgia Stitt (and her music) set in motion a chain reaction which led to the creation of their production company – JMY Productions (jmyproductions.com) –  culminating in a showcase of Stitt’s work next Monday night in Melbourne.

“As soon as we heard the clips, we bought the album and we were hooked! We found her website and I emailed her on a whim to ask about availability and performance licensing,” said Ybarzabal.

Almost as suddenly as he found the music, Jordan Ybarzabal from Melbourne was communicating with Stitt, (who happens to be the wife of renowned Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown) and discussing the idea of putting together an evening of her work.

“Georgia then put me on to her manager, Bruce Miller (of Washington Square Arts and Films) and over the past few months the three of us have been selecting the repertoire for the show and working on its structure,” he said.

Ybarzabal has been working tirelessly on the project for months now, and has managed to assemble a cast of exceptionally talented performers, who between them will cover the large range of vocal and acting demands in Georgia’s music.

“The show is in two acts and will work as a double bill. Act I is a revue of Georgia Stitt’s music featuring FRANCESCA ARENA, BRENT DOLAHENTY, KATE HANLEY, RAELENE ISBESTER, ADRIAN LI DONNI, & JOHN O’HARA, with ADRIAN PORTELL on piano.”

Act II will be the Australian Premiere of Georgia Stitt and Marcy Heilser’s song-cycle Alphabet City Cycle featuring MADELINE CAIN.

This one night only performance on Monday, February 22 at 8pm will be an exciting and entertaining night of music and song.

Staged at the Randall Theatre, St Martin’s youth Arts Centre, South Yarra, The Music Of Georgia Stitt will be an event to remember.
