Broadway legends Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth have delighted fans by revealing their cameos in the highly anticipated Wicked movie, directed by Jon M. Chu. Sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the set, the duo celebrated their return to the world of Oz, over two decades after originating the iconic roles of Elphaba and Glinda in the Broadway production.

The first part of the film, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, smashed box office records during its opening weekend, bringing Gregory Maguire’s beloved novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West to life for a new generation. The screenplay was crafted by the musical’s original creators, Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, alongside Dana Fox.

Menzel and Chenoweth appear as ‘Wiz-O-Mania Super Stars’ during the dazzling ‘One Short Day’ sequence, when Elphaba and Glinda venture to the Emerald City. Their cameo is packed with Easter eggs, offering a treat for longtime fans of the musical. The scene reveals critical lore about the land of Oz, including the origins of the Grimmerie, the magical book that plays a pivotal role in Elphaba’s story.

Their interaction with Erivo and Grande’s characters adds a touch of humor to the movie, blending nostalgia with fresh, lighthearted moments. Fans of the Broadway show will no doubt cherish seeing the original witches reunited on the big screen.

The Wicked movie series also features appearances from notable West End stars, including Alice Fearn, who plays Glinda’s mother, and other theatre icons like Sharon D Clarke, Kerry Ellis, Andy Nyman, and Courtney-Mae Briggs. Their involvement further solidifies the film as a celebration of Wicked’s rich theatrical legacy.

Released in cinemas on 22 November, the first part of Wicked has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. The film promises to set the stage for an epic conclusion when part two arrives in cinemas on 21 November 2025.

For those eager to dive deeper into the world of Oz, behind-the-scenes galleries and guides to the movie’s Easter eggs and guest stars are available online, providing an even richer experience for fans of this timeless story.

Wicked’s leap from stage to screen continues to enchant audiences, blending Broadway brilliance with cinematic magic – and with Menzel and Chenoweth’s return, it’s an unforgettable moment in Oz’s ever-expanding tale.
