The World premiere of How to Train You Dragon Arena Spectacular was cancelled just minutes before the first dragon was due to take flight at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena this evening.
The production, which includes 24 computer controlled animatronic dragons, is believed to have been cancelled because of last minute safety concerns.
A meesage posted on the company’s facebook page reads:
How to Train Your Dragon Arena Spectacular are very sorry to announce that tonight’s performance has been cancelled. A production of this scale and size has never been attempted before, and some final technical issues prevent us from proceeding tonight. All patrons for this evening will receive a full refund. It seems that any safety concerns have now been rectified as in a more recent statement they have announced that tomorrow’s 3pm show will be going ahead as scheduled.
This opening performance of How To Train Your Dragon arena spectacular was to be the first in an Australian and world tour. The show stars Helpmann Award Winning performer Rarmian Newton (Billy Elliot) and Sarah McCreanor in the leading roles of Hiccup and Astrid.

I am presently sitting at the intermission for over 50 minutes at the 3pm show on Saturday 3 March. Too many problems. They should have cancelled this show too. I am so disappointed and hope they will refund us.
We too sat through over a total of an hour an a half of technical difficulties at the 3pm show to be offered complimentary tickets for another date. We won't be bothering. Whilst the robotics are quite impressive it seems the rest of the show didn't match the hype. Extremely disspointed as we flew from Darwin to see opening night on Friday.

Sunday March 4th. Saw the 11am session. It was GOOD! There were a few technical probs, but nothing to cry about. My nephew -8 years old- said it was the BEST THING he's ever seen! Better than the movie!
It might not have been Shakespeare, but then again it was NOT Shakespeare.
