How do we navigate Australia’s arts landscape?
As part of student recruitment for its 2022 Master of Fine Arts Cultural Leadership degree, NIDA’s Karilyn Brown will host a series of interactive online sessions with leaders in cultural professions across Australia.
One of Australia’s leading arts thinkers, Karilyn will draw out insights into the critical changing cultural landscape, how leaders are adapting to it and opportunities for future leaders at The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
The online sessions include First Nations creative director and choreographer Jacob Boehme of the Narangga and Kaurna Nations, South Australia; Jax Compton, a proud Wuthathi (Aboriginal) woman from East Cape York Peninsula, Queensland and Cultural Manager of Team Mills Foundation and Co-Founder Muggera Cultural Enterprise.
- How are Australia’s cultural leaders navigating our dynamically evolving cultural landscape?
- How are the complex challenges of COVID impacting on the sustainability of the arts and what opportunities exist for the future?
Jacob Boehme is a multi-disciplinary theatre maker, choreographer and creative director, and First Nations Lecturer with the Cultural Leadership course.
Karilyn Said:
The global demand for new and diverse voices, the multiple impacts of the COVID pandemic, unpredictable economic and environmental challenges are all major disruptions that require innovative, entrepreneurial, and impactful solutions.
In such a rapidly changing world, we look to cultural leaders who not only embrace change but also drive the transformation of the cultural environment through inclusive, collaborative and resilient leadership models.
Karilyn Brown has held executive positions with several Australian and international organisations, including Performing Lines, the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies, the Australia Council for the Arts, the Sydney 2000 Olympic Arts Festivals, and others, and currently heads up NIDA’s Master of Fine Arts in Cultural Leadership.
