Our House Musical to workshop in Sydney this month

AussieTheatre can confirm that a workshop of Our House The Musical will take place in Sydney this month led by director Tyran Parke and choreographer Michael Ralph.

Our House, with a book by Tim Firth (Calendar Girls) and music from the ska band Madness, won an Olivier Award for Best Musical in 2003. This Australian premiere workshop, presented by Adrian Storey from Storeyboard Entertainment, is the first step in securing a fully fledged professional tour of the musical in 2015.

“We are doing a workshop of Our House The Musical in two weeks time and the aim of the workshop is to present a reduced version of the piece to key members of the entertainment industry on November 24 in the hope that a fully staged version can be mounted in 2015″, Adrian Storey told AussieTheatre exclusively this morning.

“We have put together a really great new-talent creative team headed by Tyran Parke as director, Michael Ralph – our choreographer – and Andrew Worboys as Musical Director. This team is complemented by some great, experienced support in the form of Michael Waters in Sound and Richard Neville in Lighting,” Storey said.

The workshop cast include Sheridan Anderson, Angelique Cassimatis, Hilary Cole, Andrew Cook, Alex Given, Ryan Gonzalez, Delia Hannah, Glenn Hill, Madeleine Mackenzie, Tobias Madden, Monique Salle, Ellen Simpson, Christopher Stollery, David Whitney and Matt Holly (currently playing Chistery in Wicked) in the leading role of Joe Casey.

Storey describes Our House The Musical as “young and vibrant” and with such an incredible cast and creative team assembled to breathe the first life into the production this month, there is little doubt that the show will soar. Director Tyran Parke has created some of the country’s most exciting independent music theatre productions of late, with the Green Room Nominated production of Assassins at the top of the list. Michael Ralph’s innovative choreography has earned him accolades in both the dance and musical theatre sectors and his performance background in music theatre brings another dimension to his work as a creative.

“I think it’s aimed at a new generation of theatre going audiences but, you know, the beauty about the Madness music is that everybody who grew up with that in the 70s and 80s is now in their 40s and 50s. So it’s a real hark back to everybody in that generation’s childhood”, Storey said.

“You can come along to this show and not only see a great piece of music theatre, but also relive your youth and have a really, thoroughly good night out. And I think that’s the beauty of Our House.”

Love your work, Adrian Storey! Let’s get behind this one, gang!
