Hidden Sydney
In September 2016, from the rear entrance of “The Nevada” at the World Bar in Kings Cross, a story awaits. This is Hidden Sydney – The Glittering Mile, an immersive cabaret/theatre experience set over four floors of The Nevada, the former Sydney brothel that had, apparently, the biggest bed in the world.
Lately, the Cross feels like it might be fading out from its vibrant, messy beginnings. Lockout laws have shut down venues and people are moving out. But its spirit is still in there somewhere, and in Hidden Sydney, it’ll be front and centre once again.
You’ll encounter bouncers, sex workers, drag queens, criminals, entertainers, and eccentrics. Names like Bea Miles, Abe Saffron, Roie the Witch, Standover Jim and, of course, Les Girls.
Directed by Lucas Jervies and written by Trevor Ashley, Benito Di Fonzo, Nikki Britton, Ray Badran and Ben Fink, this is sure to be a spectacle, a singular experience.
Performed by a cast of 16 performers, actors, artists, and musicians, it’s like Underbelly only arty, Sleep No More only not Shakespearean, history only not told by old white guys.
Proudly supported by the City of Sydney, Hidden Sydney is part of the City’s Art & About program. Art & About Sydney is an ongoing year-round program of events – a celebration of art in unconventional spaces.
