Perth Theatre Company continues to produce contemporary theatre in Western Australia with their latest production, On the Misconception of Oedipus.

Co-produced with the Malthouse Theatre and devised by Zoe Atkinson, Tom Wright and Matthew Lutton, the production explores the myth of Oedipus and the relationship between Jocasta and Laius, the parents that would give birth to Oedipus who would eventually betray and bring down their downfall.

Lutton describes the production as prequel to the Oedipus myth: “The piece actually positions the audience to be the ‘shrink’ to Oedipus’ parents as they wrestle with the notions of fate” he said.

Perth Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Melissa Cantwell is thrilled with the cast and creative team assembled for this production. Directed by Matthew Lutton and featuring Natasha Herbert, Richard Pyros and Daniel Schlusser On the Misconception of Oedipus

“This production is led by a brave and talented director, and features a team of artists who constantly challenge themselves to break new ground” said Artistic director, Melissa Cantwell.

“I am interested in sharing work that provides our audiences with unique, memorable theatrical experiences. Matthew Lutton’s On the Misconception of Oedipus will offer that and much more.”

On the Misconception of Oedipus will play at the Studio Underground, State Theatre of Western Australia from the 5 September for a two week run.
