It is being strongly rumoured that Jaz Flowers has won the role of Tracy Turnblad in the forthcoming Australian production of the musical Hairspray.
While the cast has yet to be officially announced, rumours suggest that Flowers, who is currently appearing in Fame The Musical, has won the prized role of the overnight celebrity who fights for social justice.
Flowers only made her major musical theatre debut last year, when she appeared in Shane Warne The Musical.
Having won over 30 awards – including the 2003 Best Musical Tony Award – Hairspray takes audiences to 1960s Baltimore. The 50’s are out and change is in the air. Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion – to dance. She wins a spot on a local television program, and becomes an overnight celebrity.
