Hansel & Gretel: The delicious school holiday workshop

The school holidays are back up and running as Opera Queensland and shake & stir theatre co are set to present their Hansel & Gretel school holiday workshop at West Village.

Loved by hundreds and thousands of people the world over, Hansel & Gretel is one of the most popular operas ever written. Opera Queensland and shake & stir theatre co present this Humperdinck classic, reimagined especially for primary students in the 21st century.

Hansel & Gretel will transport children and adults alike to a contemporary world of magic, fairies and sweets with its enchanting story of survival and family bonds, taking the audience on a journey deep into the forest which is full of surprises and learning opportunities.

The audience will watch a video stream of three of Opera Queensland’s most energetic young performers. In between the short film segments, Hansel (Jessica Low – Mezzo-Soprano) and Gretel (Irena Lysiuk – Soprano) will visit West Village to teach some of the songs and a special dance from the production. The children will have an opportunity to get to know the characters and the artists who play them as they initially meet them as Hansel & Gretel but then take the children through some drama and acting activities experimenting through play.

Safe social distancing will be maintained throughout the workshop with parents/guardians to also join.
