Great Expectations: a Dickens classic moves under the wharf in November

It’s 200 years since the birth of legendary writer Charles Dickens, and atyp (Australian Theatre for Young People) in conjunction with bAKEHOUSE Theatre Company are presenting a thrilling new adaptation of the classic Great Expectations.

Great Expectations

In a dynamic re-imagining of the book, this youthful ensemble will take audiences on a journey from Kentish marshes to bustling London streets, all the while embracing the colourful spectacle of Dickens’ original work. This adaption is full of laughter, beauty, and mystery.

When Pip’s childhood dream is granted by a mysterious benefactor, his life becomes one extraordinary encounter after another, twist of fate after twist of fate. It’s a world that cautions one to be careful what they wish for, where beautiful girls are used as weapons and where dark secrets always come home to roost. Where is nothing more important than knowing who you are, and remembering where you came from.

This bold adaptation by Nick Omerod and Declan Donnellan, originally commissioned for the Royal Shakespeare Company in London, reteels the dark and dazzling tale with some of Dickens’ most memorable characters: Magwitch, Joe Gargery, Jaggers, and Miss Havisham.

Directed by John Harrison, this production features Shannon Ashlyn, Jarrod Crellin, Alan Dearth, Cheyne FInn, Kieran Foster, Sophie Haylen, Stephen Lloyd-Coombs, Richard Hilliar, Daniel Hunter, Jim McCrudden, Callum McManis, Jacki Mison, Jessica Paterson, Rebecca Saffir and Patrick Sherwood.

Performances begin October 31st. For tickets and more information visit www.atyp.com.au
