Dame Vera Lynn was known as the “Force’s Sweetheart.” She is credited with inspiring the nation with her patriotic wartime songs during World War II. Now, one of our most celebrated ladies of song will bring her to life in Vera.
The show, which is personally endorsed by Dame Vera Lynn, will feature excerpts from her famous BBC radio program, Sincerely Yours, as it celebrates the life and music of the Dame, interwoven with film clips of the War.
Melanie Parry will take on the mantle of the Dame. A trained coloratura soprano, Parry is a performer and cabaret artist who was known during her West End career as the Australian with the golden voice.
Parry will take us through such beautiful classics as “The White Cliffs of Dover,” “This is the Army Mr Jones”, “Land of Hope and Glory,” “We’ll Meet Again,” and more.
Vera: The Magic of Dame Vera Lynn will play at the Glen Street Theatre on Tuesday 20 May at 11am. For bookings visit www.glenstreet.com.au.
