Previously announced were Blazey Best (Miracle City, Only Heaven Knows) as Rose, and Laura Bunting (Rent, Calamity Jane) as her daughter Louise. Joining them will be Sophie Wright (Kinky Boots) making her Hayes Theatre debut as June,  Anthony Harkin (The View UpStairs) as Herbie, comedian Jane Watt (Gate 64), Mark Hill (Muriel’s Wedding), Rob Johnson (Calamity Jane), Jessica Vickers (Miracle City) and Matthew Predny (High Fidelity).

Set across America in the 1920s, Arthur Laurents’ landmark show documents the dying days of vaudeville and the birth of a shocking new form of entertainment – burlesque. Rose’s fanatic determination pushes her family’s loyalty to breaking point, but from the most unlikely of places emerges one of the twentieth century’s most illustrious and ingenious entertainers – Gypsy Rose Lee.

The production team for Gypsy includes Director Richard Carroll (Calamity Jane, Side Show), Musical Director Joe Accaria (Velvet), Choreographer Cameron Mitchell (Calamity Jane, Mack and Mabel) Designer Alicia Clements (Assassins, The Father) and Lighting Designer Trent Suidgest (Muriel’s Wedding).

Gypsy plays from 18 May at the Hayes Theatre Co, Sydney.
